Responsible Pet Day

Responsible Pet Ownership

On Wednesday 9 March, 2016 Bilambil K-2 students and also our Pre-school students were lucky to once again be involved in the Responsible Pet Ownership Program.

This program teaches children how to be safe around cats and dogs. It teaches the children how and when it is safe to approach an animal and also what to do if they encounter a dog that is not friendly.

The program was presented by Vicky, who came all the way from Newcastle with her beautiful Border Collie, "Zack" and her Australian Shepherd, "Linc". These extremely well behaved dogs helped Vicky to deliver her message, along with songs and audio visual aids.

Some lucky students were chosen to demonstrate the safe way to pat a dog. All students received handouts to take home. There is also a website the students can access with games and activities designed to reinforce the message. The website is called  "Victor and Victoria's Pet Town" and can be found at www.pets.nsw.gov.au.
